More Christmas Cheer from SCPG

Our recent foray into downtown Summerville for some night-time shooting yielded some really cool artistic efforts from the gang. In honor of those that posted their Christmas views to share, here’s a sampling of what is available in the forums.  (Keep in mind, the blog compresses these, so they really are better viewed in the forums):

News from the photo world

It’s been a while since the blog has done any news postings, but this one is too huge to pass up on.  The widely recognized standard in photo editing - Photoshop - is getting ready for a huge facelift from Adobe, in the form of Creative Suite 3 (CS3), and a beta version has been released by Adobe for people to become familiar with the new inner workings.  It does require an existing version of Photoshop CS2 and its serial key to install.  Several resources have popped up on the web as well, including tutorials, first looks, and a plethora of discussions in online forums and communities.  If you have the capacity to do so, checking out this major upgrade will definitely be worth the effort.  Faster load times, the ability to open jpg and tiff files in the ACR converter, and scads more functionalities make for an excited photog community.  Here are some useful links to start from:

Great stuff, and I am sure there are other resources out there, so if anyone would care to share their nuggets in the comments section, feel free to do so! :)

Lots to share!

With the holidays rapidly approaching, the SCPG has put out its Holiday Podcast!!  *sound applause tapes*  The subject this go-around:  Camera Shooting Techniques.  This month we look into the details of prepping for a shoot, how to hold your camera while shooting, grip, stance, and even looking at things like composition to some degree.  Fun stuff there, so feel free to check it out at your leisure over in our podcast section, linked here on the Blog Site.  It’s a tad shorter (15 minutes, but still a bandwidth heavy file at 15 MB, so plan your download accordingly! :)
Also, our December Holiday shoot is coming up quite soon - this Saturday, specifically, so come on out and join us as we try to capture the Christmas Spirit of Summerville.  We meet up at the town Square at an adjusted time of 4:30, not 3:30.  Dress warm as a cold front is moving in, and bringing a friend (as well as your camera) is always encouraged!

After the holidays, our next shoot will be the 20th of January, location still TBD so if you are hankering for a place to get out and shoot - stop in the forums and let us know, new members ideas and locations are always encouraged!  We are also in the initial planning stages of getting a member gallery up on display in the Summerville library.  Still the very initial stages, but fun stuff to think about regardless.

Until next time, happy blogging, happy surfing, and Happy Holidays from those of us here at SCPG!

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to all from the members of the South Carolina Photography Guild! In celebration of the holidays, our upcoming shoot for December 9th (Saturday) will be an afternoon/evening shoot where we will be practicing longer shutter speeds and night-time shooting as we attempt to capture the scenes and lights of downtown Summerville. The square is typically a very beautiful area around the holidays, with the decorations and lights, so come help us try to do it justice as we embark on our holiday shoot!

As always, the group is open to any and all with any level of experience. The only reminder is that cameras are helpful (and some warm clothes since it will be a tad cooler in the evening). Come along and bring a friend!
