Photography and photos on the web

The May issue of Shutterbug magazine just came out, and there is an excellent little article in there by Jon Canfield about the impact the internet is having on photography, and measures we can take to protect our imagery.  For most of us, sharing our family photos in blog galleries and such may not seem like a big deal, but just imagine how you would feel if suddenly your face was appearing underneath an ad for some product.  No one contacted you, and you certainly did not receive a check for your “endorsement”.  Is this legal?  It depends…Jon touches on this briefly too.

Legal questions aside, the article illustrates that it is always in your best interests to protect your images.  He gives a “how to” for Photoshop, and points you in the right direction for other applications as well.  Anyway, it’s a good read, and highly recommended.  Check it out on newsstands today!
