One way to beat the heat

If these shots don’t make you thirsty, they might at least make you think of being cooler, since they are “coolers” of sorts! :)

Photo Happy

In keeping with the theme of the SCPG Blog - here are some shots from one of our “walkabouts” (shoots) that we took downtown last fall. The upcoming shoot in August will be in the same general area, so think of these as incentive shots to join us. It was a fun time, and a great way to learn new shooting tips, tricks and techniques. Anyway, w/out further ado:

Flowerbeds downtown (also plentiful) ~

And one last set of flowerbeds against a colorful wall ~

Planet Low Country

Yes, you read that right, I am calling the new incarnation the Planet Low Country (PLC for short), is up and running full force, aggregating all our blogs together automatically. This, in conjunction with Jared’s planet shall do nicely to give everyone in the Low Country a central place to visit and check on updates around the area from their latest favorite blog sites. I was starting on doing my part to contribute when a nasty succession of hardware failures by my hosting provider, compounded by human errors on their end (remember, it’s never my fault!), left me totally without a connection even to my content for management and updates. (Really, it wasn’t my fault…) Then, as I struggled in communicating with them, work also had some fun times with heat-realted power outages. Thus, it’s been a few days… Anyway, I had been thinking on an even larger scale aggregator to include all of South Carolina! Yes, that’s right, the ultimate contradiction in terms: a Planet South Carolina - where the entire state could be sectioned off by area (Low Country, Islands, Midlands, Upstate, etc.) with aggregation happening by region. Well, the domain has now propagated so hopefully with the help of Jared, this should soon become a reality as well. Thoughts on this are welcome as well! You may resume your regularly scheduled surfing. Oh, and for the visual POTD - here is a shot from one of the sunrise shoots last fall, courtesy of yours truly!

The Fruits of our Labors (& POTD #4)

After a very enjoyable session with the rest of the group Saturday, I felt ready to try applying some of the techniques, only no pictures to try them with. So….while having dinner with our neighbors on Sunday, I took my camera over and just started taking a few shots during and afterward of their daughter. Just to look at her makes your heart melt, but don’t take my word for it, here’s a shot I worked up in PS for the POTD:

Photography loses Catherine Leroy

Somehow I missed this, but the AP reported a few days ago that Catherine Leroy, a famous war photojournalist from the Vietnam era has passed away after a bout with cancer in Santa Monica, CA. Their story on it can be found here:

It’s a full moon tonight in Charleston, SC (POTD #3)

Full moon tonight and the view was quite spectacular. My woeful little 70-200 Tamron really couldn’t do it justice, but here is one of the better ones I got:
